Hans Munthe-Kaas works in geometric numerical integration and Lie group methods. His research includes Runge–Kutta methods on manifolds and numerical algorithms that preserve the geometric structure of differential equations.
He is a co-director of the Lie–Størmer Center. His work on B-series, combinatorial Hopf algebras and Lie group integrators connects algebraic structures with numerical analysis, with further interests in rough paths and regularity structures.
