Join the national PhD school in mathematics

Mathesis connects PhD students in mathematics across Norway. Members profit from access to courses

You can join Mathesis directly to access courses, events, and our peer network across Norwegian universities.

Why Join Mathesis

Membership gives access to a national network of courses, peers, and research opportunities

  • National Courses — Access to coordinated courses and hybrid masterclasses across Norwegian universities
  • Summer & Winter Schools — Participation in intensive schools with international lecturers
  • Peer Community — Connection with PhD students across five universities: UiT, UiB, UiO, NTNU, UiS
  • PhD Day — Invitation to the annual Mathesis PhD Day and joint events
  • Industry Connections — Opportunities for joint supervision and contact with partners like SINTEF and Simula

Who Can Join

You are eligible to join Mathesis if you:

  • Are enrolled as a PhD student at a Norwegian university or research institute
  • Work within mathematics, statistics, or computational sciences, or a closely related field
  • Have the support of your supervisor to participate in the school's activities

Researchers from industry or public-sector institutions, and PhD students from abroad collaborating with Norwegian partners, may also join as associate members.

How to Apply

  1. Fill out the online membership form (name, institution, supervisor, PhD topic, start year)
  2. Upload a short motivation statement (½ page) describing how your PhD fits the scope of Mathesis
  3. Ask your supervisor to confirm your participation (short email or checkbox confirmation)

Applications are reviewed by the Mathesis Board twice per year. Accepted members receive a confirmation email and access to the internal network.
