When you browse

You can read the public website without an account. We do not use analytics tools or advertising trackers. The website does not build visitor profiles or make automated decisions about you.

Serving a page involves processing connection information such as your IP address. Technical server logs can contain the requested page path, request time, response status and browser information. These support operation, troubleshooting and security; they are not visitor analytics.

When you contact us

Email links open your email application. If you send a message, we receive your email address, its contents and any contact or affiliation details you include. Provide only information relevant to your enquiry; avoid sending sensitive personal information by ordinary email.

People, publications and event reports

The site publishes professional information about researchers, members, speakers and collaborators: names, affiliations, roles, research interests, biographies, professional contact details, publication information and photographs. Information comes from the person, the center, event organisers or cited institutional and public sources. Public pages can be indexed by search engines and accessed worldwide. Contact us to correct your profile or raise a concern about an image.

Events, courses and external services

Registration, applications and course materials may be provided on another website. Follow that service’s privacy notice before submitting information. Opening a link sends a request to its operator; the center’s public website does not receive the contents of an external form merely because it links to it.

Cookies and optional video

Ordinary browsing does not require first-party cookies or local storage. Optional YouTube players load only when you choose to play a film. Once activated, the player connects to Google/YouTube and their processing rules apply. Read our cookie and external-media information before playing a film.

We use correspondence to answer enquiries and organise the center’s activities, and publish professional information to communicate research, education and scientific events. The center’s institutional activities are carried out as part of UiT’s public task in research and education, under GDPR Article 6(1)(e).

Where a specific use requires consent, that consent is requested for the stated purpose and can be withdrawn. Where records must be retained to meet a legal obligation, Article 6(1)(c) applies. A separate event, application or research activity must identify its own purpose and applicable basis when it collects information.

You do not have to contact us or use an external service to read the site. If you ask us to reply or arrange participation, the contact details needed for that request are necessary to provide that service.

Retention depends on the purpose and the applicable university recordkeeping requirements:

• Correspondence: kept while the enquiry is being handled and for necessary follow-up. Correspondence that forms part of an official record is handled under UiT’s recordkeeping and archival requirements.
• Professional profiles: kept while relevant to the person’s role or the center’s activities. Historical reports, publication credits and event archives may remain as a record of those activities; corrections and removal requests are assessed individually.
• Technical logs: kept for operation, fault diagnosis and security. Information needed for a particular incident may be retained for its investigation and any resulting obligations.
• External registrations and applications: the collecting service’s notice explains its retention arrangements.

There are no visitor-analytics records to retain. For the retention criteria or period applying to a particular enquiry, profile or service, contact the center or UiT’s data protection officer.

We do not sell or rent personal data. Correspondence is available to the people who need it to respond or administer the relevant activity. Website, hosting and email providers process information needed to supply their services; institutional systems handle records connected with UiT’s work.

Information deliberately published on the site is public. Private correspondence is not published as part of a profile or event report. Information may also be disclosed where required by law.

External links and optional video players connect you to separate operators. An external site may use its own cookies, logs and account services. Check its privacy notice before providing information.

A public website is accessible worldwide. Information you choose to send to an external service, or connection information sent when you activate a YouTube player, may be processed outside Norway and the European Economic Area. Google explains its processing and transfer safeguards in its privacy policy.

For processing carried out on the center’s behalf, any transfer outside the EEA must have an applicable GDPR transfer basis and safeguards. The data protection officer can provide information about safeguards for a particular service. This notice does not promise that every linked service keeps data within the EEA.

Depending on the processing and its legal basis, you can request access, correction, deletion or restriction of your personal data, and object to processing based on a public task. Data portability applies where its legal conditions are met. If processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it without affecting processing already carried out lawfully.

Send your request to contact@lie-stormer.no or the data protection officer. Identify the information or page concerned and the action you want. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity; do not send an identity document unless it is requested through an appropriate channel.

Requests are normally handled without charge and within one month. If a lawful extension or an exception applies, you will be told why. Some records must remain to meet legal or archival duties. See Datatilsynet’s explanation of your rights.

You can complain to Datatilsynet, the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, if you believe your personal data has been handled unlawfully. You can contact the center or data protection officer first to seek a resolution; this does not remove your right to complain.

This notice is updated when the website’s functions or handling of personal data changes. The revision date above identifies the current version. Information for a particular event or university service should be read alongside this notice.
